Big Mouf

De La Soul: “Big Mouf”

De La’s been talking about their collabo with Nike for some time now, but finally we have some proof of this project.  The album will be called Are You In?, and is dropping just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut record 3 Feet High and Rising (classic!).

Stakes Is High > Buhloone Mind State > 3 Feet High and Rising (yes, I said it)

“What You See Is What You Get” is probably the GOAT Xzibit track ever…Oh, and I know everyone feels “Paparazzi” (or anything else from the first album), but this track introduced me to Tha Liks/Dogg Pound associate.  Actually, I first bought it on CD-single in the lates 90’s, with “Three Card Molly” on the B-Side.  With that said, Bas Radio had to pay homage to Mr. X to the Z eventually anyways…

It Ain’t Workin!

April 28, 2009

Above is the official video of Mayer Hawthorne’s hit “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out,” which made #11 on Bass Rocks’ Top 25 Songs of 2008.  Also, if you get down on some good wax, you can cop the limited 45″ on hear-shaped vinyl HERE.

This is my shit!

Hella Big Deal

April 28, 2009

There has been so much hype over this track, I probably don’t have to even go there.  Regardless, the presumed first single off Clipse’s upcoming third album Till The Casket Drops, “Kinda Like A Big Deal (feat. Kanye West)” is kinda like a big deal (pun intended).  Peep game after the jump for a first listen..

Method Man & Redman: “Dangerous MC’s”

Above is the latest Meth & Red leak from their forthcoming effort Blackout! 2…This is real refreshing and seems as though they never skipped a beat between albums (even though the last Blackout dropped almost a decade ago).  I can definitely get down with another full-length from these two, and hope the rest of the album sounds this good.

Born Like This

April 24, 2009

DOOM (aka MF Doom aka Zev Love X) has remained out of the underground hip-hop spotlight for the better part of 4 years, with his last official release dropping back in 2005 (The Mouse and The Mask).  It also doesn’t help that he hit some controversy last year, by allowing skinny impostors wearing the mask to rock “MF Doom” shows in his absence (several times in a row).

Having been extremely influential and consistent during 2004-2005, the above factors wouldn’t seem to bode well for a successful return after 4 years of  no material and bad publicity.

With that said, I was pretty apprehensive when it came to getting excited over a new DOOM album.  After all the time that had past, and all the hate he was receiving from his fan base, the new LP was sure to backfire…Right?  Right?

New Eminem

Eminem: “3AM (Prod. Dr. Dre)”

This is the second single off Eminem’s upcoming album Relapse (5/19).  This follows “We Made You,” which is essentially a carbon-copy of every first single he’s ever done (i.e. “The Real Slim Shady,” “Without Me,” etc.)…This track sounds much more promising.

Charles Hamilton: “Barbara Walters”

..Or so his first official single would indicate.  “Barbara Walters” is Hamilton’s debut single off his upcoming Interscope LP This Perfect Life.  Honestly, a little bit underwhelmed for the hype-monster that is the pink-wearing, Sonic the Hedgehog fan, Charles Hamilton.

Kind of taken back a little too from the recent beef he cooked with OG lyricist Rhymefest.  Leaves me scratching my head..
